How effective are your multivitamins really? What are your supplements made of? How trustworthy are the ingredients on a multivitamin pill? Do you even need multivitamins?
Have you ever posed these questions to yourself or to your doctor?
Answer in majority of cases is no. Scary isn’t it? But advertising and marketing of these products is so aggressive and rampant, you cannot avoid them. People are made to believe that they need extra vitamins to function better. Popping a pill is much easier than eating well or exercising, right? There are so many over the counter (OTC) drugs available now. You may be easily influenced by an attractive TVC or print/ online ad and go get your hands on a multivitamin bottle. The space is getting more crowded every day and it is important to clear the clutter. Some are genuine players, while some are fakers.

Multivitamin brands Sisu Vitamins and Natural Factors Canada are two of the well-known names in Canada.
SISU (pronounced see-sue) is Finnish for “strength and stubborn determination" combined with "stamina and courage". Formed in 1980, the company has been in the multivitamins and supplement business since more than 30 years. Its mainstay has been natural ingredients with science based supplements. SISU has a distribution network of over 1400 Canadian Health Supplement online and offline retailers. With ecommerce coming into being, the business has been ever increasing as new orders pour in from all parts of the world.

SISU was the first to introduce Ester-C (Vitamin C) in Canada. Ester-C is available in capsule, tablet and powder form and as a daily vitamin drink. It is a major component in other SISU vitamins and supplements. Another start product from the company is Wellmune which is a patented natural ingredient. It improves the body’s immune system and helps creating a barrier from bacteria and virus that typically cause common cold.
Natural Factors Canada on the other hand, primarily markets them as an all-organic brand. They grow their own herbs and have a research and development center in British Columbia, Canada. The company aims to offer the best of natural world and science through a range of dietary supplements and vitamins.
In a recent survey of multivitamins, SISU’s “Only One” and Natural Factor’s “MultiStart” were pegged against each other. However SISU Vitamins was way down the charts, which was pretty unexpected. Both products though are two of the bestselling OTC multivitamins.

Online surveys can be misleading at times. There can be people who have found one brand more effective than the other but overall both have the same potency. It seems that natural-all-organic buzzwords sell more in these times. It is no surprise that companies are sometimes exaggerating “natural” claims in order to sell more.
